Many, many days I wish I could get out of my head somehow, just take a hiatus, but to me everything we do in the school building relates to being human. I suppose people do work to keep school-school and personal-personal, and I am not suggesting an unhealthy work-life balance here…just an acknowledgement that so much about building the type of culture and community we want in a school building reflects the same in terms of homes, communities, etc. Consider this great quote:
"We must be willing to challenge the stories we have told ourselves and the stories others have told us, as these stories impact the ways we see ourselves and others. That willingness takes effort, just as it takes effort to be willing to examine and communicate the parts of a relationship that have been, and continue to be, nourishing. With these efforts, we stretch. Our stories can become more flexible, and each moment with ourselves and with others can offer a fresh opportunity to see aspects of our experiences that we may not otherwise notice."
This just continues to reaffirm the importance of conversations and how there is no substitute for gathering be it good, bad, or ugly.
