Significant grief and loss encompasses this great Nation. Tomorrow marks the 16th anniversary of 9/11. Texans begin the process of re-building. Californians figure out how to extinguish devastating wildfires, and Floridians await the extent of Hurricane Irma. Lewis Carroll’s the White Queen, Alice in Wonderland, said, ”It’s a poor sort of memory that only works backward.” Some take this to mean we are so paralyzed by the past that we forget there is always a future.
As tomorrow arrives one thing is certain: this country thrives because of an educated citizenry. Lest we forget how important, how hopeful, how life-giving the role of public education.
